The Missionary Training College was established in the year 1978 and it was first used as revival retreat center for those working as missionaries and a new training ground for the newly recruited missionaries.
It was first opened in Aizawl Theological College (ATC) as one of the departments and from 1991, Pre-Service Training was also opened. When the location of ATC was moved to Durtlang, Missionary Training Centre also moved along with the college, but the meeting of Synod ordered the Centre to move back at Mission Vengthlang an in 1996 the centre went back it its original location. After staying inside the campus of Synod Multipurpose Training Centre for 10 years, it finally moved to the current location where it resides today.
The Training Centre opened a degree course for Batchelor of Missiology (B.Miss) in 2010 as Synod wanted to elevate the position of the Centre to a higher standard. In 2013, the Senate of Serampore College (University) approved the course and it became the first B.Miss course under Serampore College. The Governing Board of the college include the Synod Moderator as the Chairman, the Principal, MTC as the Secretary, some of the Ex-Officio Chairman as its member, three representatives of the SEC, three representatives of the Synod Mission Board and one representative of the faculty.
