Introduction:
At the 2014 Synod Inkhawmpui, an agenda reads, “Suggestion to create a post to take care of Central Jail & District Jail inmates” which was then decided as “The SEC must take the responsibility to create it.” (Gen.2). The SEC then issued a statement which reads, “The OM is given the responsibility to conduct research for the post,” (SEC 255:9) to which the OM replied, “The suggested Synod Prision Ministry (SPM) is wholefully accepted by the OM” (SEC 256:15 App-1). The OM then created guidelines (OM: 30/2015) for the newly formed SPM, which was then given to the Synod by the SEC (SEC 258:73App-2). In 2015, the Synod Inkhawmpui officially approved the formation of the SPM (Gen 63; App-6).
 
Objectives:
i) To forge a better path for prison inmates and to make better life decisions. 
ii) To strengthen the relationship between prison inmates and their respective families.
iii) To create responsibilities for the church in order to help prison inmates.
iv) To intricately study the life of prison inmates, in order to create less criminals and people that veer outside of the law.
 
Methods of the Ministry: 
The Synod Prison Ministry encompasses both the Central and District Jail in Aizawl, along with other District Jails such as: i) Champhai ii) Chhiahtlang, (Serchhip District) iii) Kolasib, iv) Lawngtlai, v) Lunglei, vi) Mamit and vii) Siaha District Jail

In the case of Lunglei District Jail, since the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM) takes good and able care of its ministry, a Lunglei Dstrict Sub Committee for SPM has not been established yet, and responsibility is given at a minimum. However, with regards to gifts and donations that are given, the Jail is given equal importance just like the other District Jails.  
 
There are a lot of prison inmates who lack families to take care of them, especially those from outside the state. In such cases, this ministry is essential to provide clothing for those who need it, daily essentials that we all can’t live without and developing a new sense of faith and worship. It is crucial for the members of the church to understand the bad conditions of these inmates, and sympathise with them. We invite everyone who is interested to donate to make their donations through the Synod Prison Ministry, and the Director of the SPM is always available for contact.
