It is absolutely impossible to locate the instant in the timeline as when the Revival of 2006 actually started. However, it is the opinion of many who have witnessed the Revival form its beginning that the Praise and Worship Service on the 22nd April, 2006 was perhaps the starting point (a self-starter in general sense) of the Revival 2006. It was in this occasion that in spite of the heavy downpour of rain, the congregation on the open was literally inert to the stormy weather. It was noticed by many that the presence and devotion of the Mizo friends coming from the Mizo Synod even motivated the congregation further. It was here that many souls especially children and women experienced the Revival of 2006. High expectations of many believers that the Holy Spirit would revisit on Sunday, the 23rd April 2006 but sadly such expectations did not fulfill. Perhaps this made the believers to yearn for the revisiting of the Holy Spirit till their expectations are fulfilled. There are sporadic events of Revival across Khasi and Jaintia Hills since then.
Significantly, events are becoming more intensified from August 2006 where many churches experienced the Revival and interestingly Revival of 2006 has not been confined in just the four walls of the churches but it even extended to schools and colleges. Most recently these events are overshadowed by another event when a mysterious bird of unknown identity and origin visited the most recent church at Kut Madan in Cherrapunjee on Sunday, the 27th August, 2006. This visit has been taken with utmost seriousness by many as it apparently seems to conform in totality to the vision seen by a young girl from the church at Nongsawlia also in Cherrapunjee, who even extended the vision to the extent that the mysterious bird would visit places where the Revival is taking place. Indeed the very same girl who saw the vision told on the 1st September 2006 that the bird would visit the Church at Mawnggap on the very day till early morning of the following day.
In between, many places in Khasi and Jaintia Hills experience the Revival and the Revival spread so many places in Shillong City. Many schools in Shillong experience the Revival when many school children from all faiths, Presbyterian to Catholics to Hinduism, all receive the touch of the Revival.
While the wave of the Revival was on high in Jowai town, the mysterious bird visited Jowai town on Sunday morning the 3rd September, 2006. Indeed the bird did as foretold visit places where the revival was taking place and so far the bird did not visit any other place where there was no Revival.
September 4, 2006 saw many Revival experiences across Shillong City from Schools to Churches. A confirmed report said that The Church at Malki, Shillong experienced the Revival to a great extent that during the night, people in the Church saw the image of the Lord casting on the Cross hung behind the pulpit. Interestingly, the level of clarity of the image of the Lord varies from person to person and from faith to faith. Many are of the opinion that those who are really clean in heart can see God. Perhaps the level of clarity is the litmus test of the cleanliness of our hearts and the strength of our faith.
The Revival of 2006 though in many respects seems to be in tune with the Revival of 1906, but there are certainly many differences. The Revival of 1906 calls for the renewing of the lives of the people, to live a new life and to tell the same to others. The Revival of 2006 speaks to many as the Great Harvest before the coming of the Lord. There is a feeling that this is probably the Last Revival before the coming of the Lord. This feeling is also supported by the statement made by this very same girl who told Press reporters that this Revival would be the most wonderful and would be the Last Revival. It is the Revival to save those who are lost and it is the revival to motivate those called and elected to facilitate the Lord’s return by intensifying the preaching of the Gospel into all the world as a witness before the coming of that terrible Day of the Lord.
